Alex Chin, Psy.D., HSP-P

Welcome to our website! I’m so glad you’re here. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or someone you care about, I’m here to listen and help. A little about myself - I trained at Adler University in Chicago, IL, where I trained at numerous psychiatric hospitals around the city and focused on developing an inpatient treatment model for young adults who receive psychiatric care. At Adler, my training included psychodynamic, CBT and Adlerian theories and principles, as well as training in group and family therapy. I completed an internship and post-doctoral fellowship with the Meier Clinics, in Wheaton, IL. Following this, I managed an outpatient office in West Palm Beach until 2019, when together with Dr. Ashley Chin, began our private practice. We relocated to Gainesville, FL in 2022 to be closer to family and community.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life transitions, struggling with anxiety or depression, or navigating challenges in your relationships, I’m here to help you find clarity and create practical strategies for lasting change. Through our work together, I hope we can get to the root of the issues and find you relief from your struggles.

I have extensive training and experience in performing Compensation and Pension exams for veterans who are pursing disability care through the VA. As well, I provide Medical Opinions as part of this process. Through this, I have learned a great deal about the military lifestyle and culture, as well as the effects of having to navigate this environment.

Although I have extensive training and experience working with children and adolescents, I have spent a great deal of time researching, learning and writing about the issues men face as we transition from young adulthood to adulthood and then parenthood.

To the men out there who are struggling with these transitions: As a husband and father, I understand firsthand the challenges men face during major life transitions—whether it’s career stress, relationship challenges, or the pressure of balancing family life. You don’t have to navigate this alone. It is easy for us to suffer silently, relying on our strength and natural resilience to muscle through troubling times. There comes a time when we need to do something different, though. Talking with someone about these struggles doesn’t mean you are giving in. Whether you need to address underlying anxiety or depression through therapy, or want to meet new goals in your life through coaching, you can know that if we' work together, I’m going to be an ally in your endeavors.

As a psychologist, I take an eclectic approach to therapy and counseling. This means I tailor the treatment to best fit your unique needs, much like selecting from an a la carte menu. While there are times when a single, focused approach is most effective, I’ve found that combining different treatment methods often leads to better results. My goal is to offer a flexible and personalized plan that helps you make meaningful progress, drawing on the best tools for your situation.

In coaching, I utilize a S.M.A.R.T. goals approach, where we work together to identify your goal and desired outcome and identify tasks, challenges and barriers that you might encounter in this process. This may be related to specific goals you have in your business or career, in athletics, or even in your relationships and intimacy with a partner.

If you’re ready to start your journey toward change, or if you’d like to learn more about how we can work together, please reach out for a consultation. I’m here to help you take that first step.
